Meet Suzanne

Hi! I'm Suzanne, a retired Texas teacher. I hold a bachelors degree from Southwest Texas State University (now called Texas State University) in Elementary Education, and I later earned a masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Houston Baptist University.

I taught in many different areas throughout my career: elementary grades 2-6, 7th grade English, Gifted and Talented pullout in an elementary setting, and I spent four years as my district's Elementary English Language Arts Curriculum Specialist. I loved each and every position.

I was also a trainer for Abydos Learning International, a wonderful program that that allows teachers to experience writing as a student while also learning the theory and pedagogy behind teaching writing through writer's workshop.

I love teaching reading and writing through the workshop approach, and many of my posts deal with that topic.

On July 23, 2015, I married my partner of 23 years. She is also a retired teacher. Together we have almost 60 years of teaching experience!

I am the proud dog mom of Lucy, an 11 year old golden retriever. She is a hot mess, but she keeps us smiling!

I have no athletic ability myself, but I love women's basketball. I've been a season ticket holder for the San Antonio Stars since they came to San Antonio in 2003.

After I retired, I decided to take some of the materials I created for conferring with readers and reinforcing grammar skills and upload them to Teachers Pay Teachers. My resources are designed for teachers in grades 3-5 and are perfect for teachers who are starting readers workshop and for providing grammar practice in a fun way.
